Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after winning in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before sprint qualifying scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th position as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed corner before the final corner on to the pit straight.
The seven-time champion ended the session in 19th, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were well clear of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619 seconds behind Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
